Located between 72 and 73 streets on the ocean and what is now Collins Avenue, it first opened in 1876 as one of several entities placed approximately 20 to 25 miles apart along the lower Florida east coast for the purpose of rescuing shipwrecked sailors.įulford, who had captained vessels operating along Florida’s east coast beginning in the late 1880s, was intrigued with the area that would someday become Miami. The funds they received specifically went to help 2 women that were being sex trafficked get off the streets and into safe harbor. NMT assists and empowers women that have been victims of human trafficking or domestic violence. The third charity that also received the $1000 donation was No More Tears, who also received $10,326 from 100+Women as the Q2 recipient. Clean Miami Beach is a non-profit that hosts regular beach cleanups and educates the community about the negative impact that plastic has on our environment. Every woman who has experienced incarceration but is committed to change will have the opportunity and tools to achieve her full potential. These charities include LEAP, an organization that empowers women who have experienced incarceration through transformational opportunities and advocacy. Thanks to the honorees that chose 100+Women Who Care as their charity of choice at BWOTY, 3 local charities each received $1000. At 100 members x $100 each = $10,000! 100% of these funds will be used to expand crucial programs and services to those in need in our community in Miami Dade County. The members then cast a vote for the “winning charity” and that recipient is awarded a grant for the total proceeds raised that quarter. The giving circle meets 4 times a year to listen to presentations from three local charities. Members in good standing, each commits to donate $100 each quarter. Three of the seven honorees chose 100+ Women Who Care.ġ00+ Women Who Care Miami Beach is an alliance of philanthropic women supporting local non profits in Miami -Dade County. One of these organizations is 100+ Women Who Care Miami Beach. As part of the recognition they were each honored with $1000 that would be donated in their name to one of twelve local charities for women that they could choose from. The point of the program is to honor exceptional women in industries that are traditionally dominated by males and that are making a difference in their field. In December 2021 the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the inaugural Badass Woman of the Year Awards.
